Sebastian Bergmann, a global leader in high end web development, visited Cornwall recently to share his expert knowledge. Sebastian is the pioneer of PHP unit, the de-facto international quality standard for testing web based applications and dynamic web site development in the software language PHP.
Bergmann, more commonly found sharing his knowledge with companies including facebook and ebay commented; "It was a pleasure working with the Cornish PHP developers, they are passionate about what they do. Adopting PHPUnit testing standards within their Agile frameworks has further enhanced their ability to deliver high quality web applications to a globally recognised standard. "
Sebastian, who held a two day workshop at Rosewarne Manor, Mithian on the 6th & 7th December, was brought to the county as part of the successful Agile programme, started 18 months ago by Oxford Innovation as part of the Grow Cornwall Programme with added support from ESF Convergence. The Agile development methods delivered an opportunity for accelerating high growth companies by providing them with skills that allow them to compete for major national and international contracts.
Belinda Waldock now facilitating the programme through Grow Cornwall was delighted to welcome Sebastian to the county to work with Grow Cornwall clients. “The agile programme is enabling businesses to set quality standards that are highly sought after in software development.”
Andrew Farmer, Programme manager for Oxford Innovation confirmed ‘The adoption of Agile has led to the creation of a number of highly skilled development roles and brought a competitive advantage for those businesses. We are proud to have introduced many new initiatives as part of our programme and we continue to seek more opportunities to deliver transformational learning to key sectors within the County”
Toby Parkins, Director of UKNetWeb said, "Sebastian provided the highest level of PHP web development training to our team. We've been adopting software approaches to delivering higher quality solutions for some time now but this level of sophistication is the finest icing on the most delicious cake. So often web developers just rely on rolling out off-the-shelf solutions which may be the easy way of doing things, but doesn't really deliver serious solutions for more demanding situations."
Nic Drew of Slightly Different commented "We have received immeasurable benefit from inclusion in Grow Cornwall. The visit of an industry leading PHP expert is the latest opportunity in a world class programme of events and seminars"
The Agile programme continues in January with a visit from Kevlin Henney, expert in Behavioural Driven Development who will share his experience and knowledge with further businesses engaged in the Agile Programme. Companies wishing to benefit from this and dedicated Coaching for High Growth should contact Oxford innovation for further details of the Grow Cornwall programme.
